Biography
Joseph A. Snyder began his law enforcement career in 1987
when he was appointed by the Village of Walden Police Department
first as a part-time dispatcher. Snyder was then hired as a
part-time police officer graduating from the Kingston Police
Academy in December, 1987. He then began working for the Town
of New Paltz Police Department first as a part-time officer
and then as a full-time officer in 1988. During his first seven
years in patrol, he served as a community relations officer
and DARE officer while still working patrol duties.
In 1995, he was promoted to Detective where he continued
through the next five years. In 2000, he was promoted to Sergeant.
He spent two years as a Patrol Sergeant and then was assigned
to the Detective Division as the Detective Sergeant.
He was promoted to Lieutenant, second in command of the department,
in January, 2003. Snyder was promoted to Chief of Police on
December 1, 2008.
Chief Snyder's resume includes many professional training
courses including instructing for the police department and
surrounding agencies. He is a graduate from the 232nd session
of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
