New Paltz Police Department Scam Alerts

As the saying goes; "There is no such thing as a free cup of coffee." We all need to be very vigilant when being offered those "incredible deals" or when that mysterious check arrives in the mail for a large sum of money.

The New Paltz Police Department has taken several reports of these types of scams ranging from "lottery winning checks" mysteriously arriving in the mail to senior citizens being contacted by the "FBI" and being told they would have to wire money to them to pay restitution in order to avoid criminal charges. (No legitimate law enforcement agency will ever contact you over the phone asking for personal information and money.)
